Two reasons:
1. Nissan cloth sucks. ImmoralMinority can tell you that.
2. They’re retired rentals. Each of them smells like an old shoe inside.

sounds like a good deal. A retired rental armada might even be a good buy. I may have onions on the Armada (incoming)

I don’t mind cloth, but it has to be woven.
This mouse fur shit has got to go. It always makes me think of a 1993 Cavalier full of cigarette burns, but maybe I’m projecting my life experience a bit.

OEM Nissan leather sucks too, fwiw.
What’s a seat recover go for these days anyway? My drivers seat has seen better days.

I had a 2006 Armada. The cloth sucked then too. Wish I had leather like that in mine! It also had lots of NVH issues. Otherwise I loved that big tank.

Is the foam replaced too depending on the age, or do you guys just re-cover seats?

is that 100% genuine whale penis leather?
![]() 05/18/2018 at 15:01 |

YES! Woven cloth is a go, otherwise pass.

Mmmmm, quilted.
Yes I know everyone seems to be doing quilted these days, but I like it.

Was looking at one at my dealers showroom while serving my path, nice but not 80000 nice

layers. so many layers...

Here at the shop it’s about $200/piece - $400/seat, $800 front row, $1000 2-row, $1300 3-row.

I do too. It’s quite nice on the buttocks.

The thin sewing foam is replaced. Cushions stay. If someone has an older car that needs cushions then I recommend finding the part number and getting the cushion somewhere.
This foam is what gets replaced: usually we just cut it off with razor blades because it’s synthetic fiber and 3 kinds of plastic.
Ours has to be a little thicker for the quilting.

These are both 40k-mile trucks. Selling at the Infiniti dealer for about $30-32k even after leather. Not a bad deal at all, considering the base-o-matic one is $55k or so.

Seriously 30 grand is a great entry point for this vehicle.

I need to work for a dealer that actually spends money on used cars.

We have several that do. Last week we had a 2010 Prius that had 195k miles, with an ask of ~5k, to get leather and a headliner because it smelled like cigarette smoke.
Others don’t seem to give a damn.

I have a hard time selling them CABIN FILTERS.

We were getting quoted Platinum w/ captains chairs and AWD on 2018s at under 50k though.

My sister’s Rogue is cloth and those are some of the comfiest seats.
![]() 05/18/2018 at 19:36 |

Man, those seats look nice with leather! Mom had a ‘03 Murrano, the cloth seats were alright. Then again, any automotive seat is good enough if I can fall asleep on it whenever I’m not driving.
How often does your business see convertibles come through for new interiors? Are all of the customers asking for leather or do some want cloth?
![]() 05/18/2018 at 19:48 |

That’s crazy. Was that before or after all of our sales tax?
![]() 05/18/2018 at 19:49 |

Also, seeing these for 80k makes me think I really should have bought that LR3 for 8k three years ago. Oh well, water under the bridge yadda-yadda...

New and Canadian, sorry forgot to specify that.
I think it was a higher end trim.

I understood - I’m in Quebec, too - that’s why I asked about sales tax. I know the exchange makes things more pricey, but 80k is a lot of pricey, so it had better be the price including tax!

Nissan seats are fine themselves - especially the ones with the memory foam inserts. But the velour-ish cloth is some of the worst upholstery ever foisted upon crossover buyers. Seriously it only lasted 14-15 before someone said “this stuff sucks. We need something that won’t look like it’s been sitting in a storage shed for decades after a few weeks of use. We need a light colored fabric that won’t stain just looking at it.

Surprisingly it’s rare to get a request for new leather on convertibles. We don’t do cloth seats because we’d have to either sew them up in-house or get pieces from the manufacturers. Although last week we did a leather-cloth swap between two Camaro convertibles.
![]() 05/18/2018 at 21:23 |
|
Hmm, that’s quite an interesting swap! I just did that myself with my Miata, going from leather to cloth, since cloth is easier to maintain (for me) than leather. The other reason is that the sun is really intense down here (in Florence, SC) that dark leather and convertibles aren’t a good idea, especially with the top down!

I think it was the sticker price before both taxes.
I forgot you’re here in Quebec.
Just configured a platinum with the black and brown seats and it comes up to 77048$

My sister’s is a 2008, too, so it has very different seats.

It’s nice, but to me no car justifies a 80000 price tag.
